The Magnet Bar

If you ever find yourself cruising down Culmore Road in Londonderry and spot a buzzing crowd outside 161, chances are you’ve stumbled upon The Magnet Bar-a beloved local favourite that blends traditional pub charm with modern comfort food and vibrant entertainment.

Set in the heart of Derry, The Magnet Bar is more than just a place to grab a pint. It’s where hearty meals meet live music, sports fans gather for quiz nights, and conversations flow as easily as the Guinness on tap. Whether you're dropping in for a quick bite, a solo dinner, or looking for a lively night out, this place checks all the boxes.

From the moment you step in, The Magnet Bar offers a welcoming vibe. It’s got wheelchair-accessible parking, entrance, and seating, which makes it a great choice for all diners. And when the weather’s playing nice? You’ll definitely want to snag a spot outdoors to enjoy the fresh Derry air with a cold Smithwicks or a refreshing cocktail in hand.

Inside, the space strikes the right balance between a casual dining restaurant and a social pub. Think comfy seating, friendly staff, live music that doesn’t overpower conversations, and a sports-loving crowd on game nights. There’s even a quiz night that brings out everyone’s competitive side.

Let’s talk about the real star here-the food. The Magnet Bar’s menu reads like a greatest hits album of comfort cuisine, with a few surprises that show the kitchen isn’t afraid to get creative.

Locals rave about the Sirloin Steak-juicy, perfectly grilled, and often paired with a creamy peppercorn sauce. If you're a seafood lover, don't miss the 3 Fish Dish, a hearty plate featuring smoked cod, smoked salmon, and mussels, or go for the battered smoked cod with king prawn fritters, which is as indulgent as it sounds.

Vegetarians and light eaters aren’t left behind. The Caesar Salad and Nachos are solid picks for those looking for something quick and satisfying. Craving something heartier? The Spicy Chicken Pasta and Southern Chicken Burger with fries hit the spot with just the right level of heat and crunch.

Other popular favourites include the Chicken and Ham Pie, Pulled Pork, Salt and Chilli Chips, and a crowd-pleasing Fish Pie Special. Basically, there’s no bad order here-only different kinds of delicious.

Let’s be honest: not all bars are created equal when it comes to the drinks menu. But The Magnet Bar stands out with an impressive beer selection, including staples like Guinness Stout and Smithwicks, alongside a rotating cast of local brews.

If beer’s not your thing, the bar’s cocktail game is strong, with fan favourites like the Espresso Martini offering a bold hit of caffeine and class. There’s also a thoughtfully curated wine list and a great tea and coffee selection, making it just as suitable for a mid-day catchup as a late-night hangout.

And yes, they serve healthy options, quick bites, small plates, and even late-night food, for when you’re not ready to call it a night just yet.

What really makes The Magnet Bar special is how well it blends variety, quality, and vibe. It's popular for both lunch and dinner, has a reputation for great coffee and dessert, and is a local go-to for watching sport or just relaxing with friends.

It’s not trying to be the trendiest spot in Derry-and that’s exactly why people love it. The vibe is real, the service is on point, and the dishes leave a lasting impression.

In a city filled with dining options, The Magnet Bar manages to feel familiar yet exciting, comfortable yet energetic. Whether you’re in the mood for a steak and a pint, a night of live music, or just a cosy solo dinner, you’ll likely find yourself coming back here more than once.

Excellent quality of service and friendly staff plenty of variety of food and beverages fantastic friendly atmosphere. Easy access to help other individuals like me with mobility issues. In my opinion, it's worth going yourself either if you live here or a tourist visiting and staying in any local hotels for a great day or evening out. I would highly recommend this establishment lady in her 50s typing this from my hometown, Derry Northern Ireland x ????????
